Every year that city attracts millions of tourists. Due to the numerous historic places, charming streets and delicious cuisine, it is a popular destination of weekend trips in Europe. But two days is not enough to see everything here. Here are just some places worth visiting in Prague.
The enormous castle
Placed on the hill, it is the biggest castle in the world, considering the area. Because of that, it has its place in the Guinness Book of Records. Over the years the rulers were expanding the castle. Today it is the headquarters of Czech president. The wonderful gardens, the cathedral and courtyards are full of tourists – especially at the season peak. Every visitor wants to walk along the Golden Lane, where Franz Kafka was writing. Before the trip, it is good to print or buy a map, in which all parts of the castle will be shown. It will make the sightseeing easier.
Charles Bridge
With the length over 500 meters, that bridge is one of the best known symbols of Prague. Its building started in 14th century and finished in 15th. Till 18th century there were no other bridges on that river in city. Crossing Vltava River, it connects two districts. Tourists admire the characteristic figures placed on that bridge. The bridge is full of life – numerous visitors, souvenirs sellers and street performers can be met here. That place is also a good spot to take photographs of the castle.
The Old Town
When visiting the square, the Orloj cannot be ignored. It is an astronomical clock. Its oldest part was mounted on the Old Town Hall in the 15th century. The hall in its present shape was connected from several buildings. The tower is designed in Gothic style and now has an observation point. On the square a monument of the reformer Jan Hus can be also seen. Strolling in the old city is a good opportunity to admire the charming streets and town houses too.
Some good restaurants
While being in Prague, everyone ought to try the Czech kitchen. A lot of people enjoy the taste of the cheese coated with breadcrumbs. Another popular dish in that country is Czech dumplings, served with various kinds of meat. Of course the Czech Republic is associated with a good beer. In its capital city many beer-houses can be found. They do not serve beer only, but also the delicious food.
Prague is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It is a good idea to visit it before Christmas, due to the huge Christmas market on the Old Town Square, but any other weekend is also fine for to come here.
