Since last decade a lot more Polish citizens start to travel whole around the Europe. It is an effect of our membership in European Union, and availability of cheap airline companies in Poland. Still, plenty of passengers, mostly older ones are using airport very often, but they do not know any other language than Polish or Russian. What to do on the airport in that situation?

First of all you have to remember, that in any part of the world, at the public areas like airports, you won’t have any problem to communicate in English. That is why you don’t have to learn tongue of each country you are visiting. English is very simple language, it is easy to learn it even being older person. Before the trip it will be good if you learn several, common sentences, like „where is a checking point” or „how can I reach city center” for example. Good idea is to take some paper dictionary with you, even if you have an online version on your mobile. Thanks to paper dictionary, you will be able to communicate with people also on board, while your cell phone will be disconnected.

Another option to deal with language barrier at the airport is to download special translator. It is totally free of charge application, very easy to use. You only have to turn it on, and choose proper option of translator, like Polish-Englidh for example. When everything will be alright wit it, you can say something directly to the speaker. After few seconds the translator will say the same words, but translated to English! You don’t need to know a single word, cause translator will also help you with people you are talking with. Of course option like that may have some flaws, like misinterpretation, but it will help you a lot for sure.

If you are still afraid that you will have a problem with language barrier at the airport, you have to get all information possible about this object. Download a map of the airport to be aware, where to go to the toilet, and where are Gates your air plane will be departing from. Maps are available at the main website of each airport, some of those have even Polish version! It will be good to take this map with you, it will be a lot easier for you to move around the area. If you are about to travel alone, but you will feel more comfortable with company, you should find someone who is heading the same flight. It is possible online, sometimes elderlies are offering their companies to another people, it is a lot easier to deal with everything this way.
